	Hobby Master 1/72 scale HA6011: Sukhoi Su-27SM Flanker-B Red 76 of the Russian Air Force in 2016. Only 500 produced. Length 12 inches Wingspan 8 inches Between 2004 and 2009 54 Su-27S and P variants were upgraded to Su-27SM (serial modernization). The upgrade included a better fire control system; new radar with a phased array antenna that allowed for an air-to-surface mode and a larger assortment of armament. Three MFD (multi-function displays), a HUD; a new self-defense system along with satellite communications gave an extended life to the Su-27s but are now being replaced by the Su-35. As new Su-35s arrived at Dzemgi IAP the 12 Su-27SMs were transferred with Red 76 RF-95261 going to the Besovets IAP. Designed by the Soviet Union to challenge the superiority of fourth generation US fighters such as the F-15 Eagle, the Su-27 was first flown on May 20, 1977. This one seat Mach-2 fighter had the Soviet Union's first operational fly-by-wire system. The aircraft is very large compared to the MiG-29, its closest Soviet counterpart, but it is built with a high percentage of titanium, which helps minimize its weight. It is exceptionally agile and is perhaps most famous for its "Cobra" maneuver, which is a short, sustained level flight at a 120 degree angle of attack, often performed at air shows.
